Assignment-17: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A zoo has no useful purpose. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.

Whether zoos serve a helpful purpose remains a topic of debate and is currently relevant. Some believe zoos have a significant educational and cognitive role, while others argue that zoos lack a helpful purpose, advocating for observing wild animals in their natural habitats. I find merits in both perspectives. In the following paragraphs, I will analyze these viewpoints and express my preference for the belief that somebody should not keep wild animals in zoos.

On the one hand, zoos offer several advantages for people. Firstly, they provide a unique opportunity for children to learn about animals by witnessing them in real life rather than through books or TV programs. Children can interact with animals, observe them up close, and even feed them, fostering a fascinating and educational experience. Secondly, zoos offer adults a chance to see a diverse array of animals they may not encounter daily.

However, on the other hand, a crucial question arises: "What benefits do wild animals gain from living in a zoo?" Unfortunately, it is challenging to identify any tangible benefits for the animals. I firmly believe that wild animals belong in their natural habitats, where they can thrive in their environment. While zoos may attempt to replicate native settings, they can never provide the freedom and genuine experiences that animals deserve.

In conclusion, somebody should not keep wild animals in zoos. I derive greater satisfaction from watching programs like "Discovery Channel" or, for those seeking adventure, observing animals in their natural habitats. I view animals as sentient beings rather than objects of entertainment. Although zoos may have educational value for humans, we should prioritize the well-being and preservation of wild animals in their natural environments.
