Assignment-19: It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members. Compare the contributions of artists to society with the contributions of scientists to society. Which type of contribution do you think is valued more by your society? Give specific reasons to support your answer.
Based on my everyday experiences and observations, artists and scientists bring numerous benefits to society. Whether the contributions of artists outweigh those of scientists or vice versa remains a subject of debate. However, both contribution forms are invaluable and irreplaceable for any society. In the paragraphs below, I will outline the reasons for this perspective.
Artists play an essential role in society, as their creations encompass and shape people's spiritual sense, views, and personalities. Through art, individuals learn about their country's history and traditions, connecting them to their cultural heritage. Additionally, art serves as entertainment while expanding our interests and perspectives. Throughout history, art has been a fundamental mode of communication, with ancient people depicting mammoth herds on cave walls and performing rituals around fireplaces to seek blessings from their gods. The very foundation of human language arose from the necessity to communicate effectively.
On the other hand, the contributions of scientists cannot be overstated. Humanity owes a significant debt to scientists for their groundbreaking work and achievements. Scientists have revolutionized our lives, making them more convenient and efficient. Innovations such as cars and airplanes enable swift transportation, while microwaves and preprocessed food simplify cooking processes. Numerous devices have been developed to streamline various tasks. Moreover, in medicine, scientists have made remarkable strides in extending and enhancing the quality of human life. Technological advancements, particularly computers, have accelerated the pace of accomplishing tasks.
In conclusion, artists nourish our souls while scientists and technology enrich our minds. Each contributes to the betterment of society in unique and indispensable ways. Attempting to eliminate or underestimate either would be a disservice to human civilization's multifaceted progress and development. Both artists and scientists play integral roles, and their combined efforts shape a vibrant and thriving society.
